This is a quality control measure to help consumers find the best local contractors. It’s a good idea to check if the people on your list are also on the builders association list. Often contractors have open houses to show off some of the homes they’ve built in a particular neighborhood. That’s a pretty easy way for consumers to see for themselves first-hand whether or not they like the workmanship of a particular contractor. Cabinetry, finish carpentry, paint and other aspects of construction can be inspected during open houses and home shows.
Some builders may be able and willing to provide a few references of people whose homes they’ve recently built. A person can then contact those individuals and ask them questions about their experiences with the builder.
